We want to take a moment to express our gratitude to the faculty, staff, students, and community partners who made this year such a success for the Center for American Indian and Indigenous Studies. Among our accomplishments, we were able to fund over 75 scholars through our various awards and grants.
This year we were also very excited to hire our Mellon Grant Program Coordinator, Todd Clark. His work and dedication have been instrumental to building community and relationships across our campuses and beyond. Thank you for your commitment to expanding our vision for the Center!
Thank you to our AIIS Scholars–what a talented and diverse community of scholars we have here at UW. We wish you success in the advancement of your research!
Thank you to our Native Knowledge in Residence Coordinator, Tami Hohn. Her dedication to Lushootseed language has set the standard for fostering Native knowledge at UW. We are so grateful to continue our collaborations with you next year!
Thank you to our Advisory Board for the time and energy you have put into the Center. Your guidance has proven to be immensely productive and rewarding, and your dedication to fostering Native community on and off campus has been truly inspiring.
Our programs and activities will continue to grow, and we thank you, the UW Indigenous Studies Community, for your continued support for the Center.
We also want to take a moment to solidify our commitment to stand in solidarity with our Black relatives and communities. We stand alongside the Movement for Black Lives, and the time has come to take action in the defense of Black life. We have signed onto the American Indian Studies statement, and as a Center are signatories on #DecriminalizeUW. These actions are just the beginning of our commitment to openly discussing and dismantling the experienced and survived racism our communities face daily, because enough is enough.
With love and solidarity we thank you for a spectacular year,
Jean Dennison, Co-director
Chad Allen, Co-director
Todd Clark, Mellon Programs Coordinator
Yoli Ngandali, Graduate Research Assistant
Marcia Feinstein-Tobey, Financial Advisor
