Indigenous Studies Symposium Friday, May 27
The Center for American Indian and Indigenous Studies (CAIIS) is hosting the second annual Indigenous Studies Symposium on Friday, May 27th, from 10am – 4pm (in person).
This graduate student-organized symposium is a conference for students working in or alongside Indigenous Studies across the three UW campuses. We invite abstract proposals from graduate and advanced undergraduate students from all UW campuses, in any discipline, for either 5-minute or 15-minute presentations.
15-minute presentations may be either individual or collaborative presentations. Possible presentations include but are not limited to: co-presenting with community partner/s, seminar papers, and undergraduate capstone projects.
5-minute lightning talks are intended for undergraduate presenters and/or graduate students who want to informally present on research brainstorming, works-in-progress, research summaries or research reflections.
Given the ongoing pandemic, we will also be offering the opportunity to pre-record your presentations to be viewed during the Symposium, with the option to Zoom in for the Q&A and feedback.
For CAIIS-funded Research Families, this event offers a venue to celebrate your ongoing works in a supportive environment.
For graduate students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in American Indian and Indigenous Studies (GCAIIS), participation in the symposium is a required part of completing your certificate capstone project and will serve as an important mentorship space. Graduate students working towards the GCAIIS are expected to give 15-minute presentations for their capstone project. To fulfill all capstone requirements for the graduate certificate, you will need to a) submit an abstract through the link below, and b) send Kai Wise (kaiwise@uw.edu) an email confirming which AIS faculty/adjunct faculty mentor you will work with during spring quarter to draft your capstone paper. Kai will then enroll you in 3 credits of AIS 590.
