We envisioned CAIIS as a Center that would not only help retain faculty, but also support American Indian and Indigenous Studies research across campus, with a significant focus in the humanities, arts, and social sciences.

As of Autumn 2018, in addition to the Provost’s Office, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education, the College of the Environment, the iSchool, the School of Social Work, the School of Public Health, the UW Libraries, the Graduate School, UW Tacoma, and IAS at UW Bothell have all pledged funding.  In addition, the Office of Global Affairs has pledged to set aside one of the grants it awards each year from its GIF funding program to a project in Indigenous studies.
