Native Knowledge at UW: Event Co-Sponsorship and/or Guest Speaker Requests

Creating space for forms of knowing at UW through Event Co-Sponsorship and Guest Speaker Funding Opportunities.

Central to our goal of fostering American Indian and Indigenous Studies at the UW is creating a space in which Native knowledge can thrive across disciplines, colleges, and campuses. This funding opportunity, sponsored by CAIIS and the Mellon Foundation, can be used for a range of activities from bringing a single guest speaker to campus to hosting a larger event. Common uses of these funds will include offering a lecture (in class or publicly), meeting with UW community, and/or facilitating a workshop or event. Expenses covered include travel, per diem, catering for meetings, lodging, and a modest honorarium. CAIIS support is designed to promote UW campus engagement, research, and teaching opportunities for Native knowledge, therefore a strong connection to Native and Indigenous peoples is required for all requests. Co-sponsorship, especially of larger events, also makes the application compelling.

We evaluate these requests on a rolling deadline, but we suggest submitting your request 1-2 months before the date needed.
